Business Spotlight: Salon22

Salon22  has been open in Welland at  the same location since 1986. I followed in my father’s footsteps and took an interest when I was 14 years old. He was a great inspiration to me and a great teacher.

What I love most about this business is that it is a constantly changing and evolving business. Being able to be creative while at the same time making people feel good is what makes this job so amazing. We offer many different service from cutting, coloring, highlights, to spa services.

Welland is where I grew up and where I knew I wanted to have my business. I love the friendly people, the way the community comes together to make Welland a beautiful, safe and fun place to be.

Salon22 is an Aveda concept salon. Aveda’s  mission is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. Aveda salons strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.

In the past 25 years Salon22 has grown and transformed. When clients visit they experience a fresh modern staff and salon with an intimate personal feel. We believe in the Aveda mission and is why we are so successful today.

The Welland International Flatwater Centre is thrilled to partner with Dragon Boat Canada to host the 2015 World Dragon Boat Racing Championships – the first time they will be held in Canada. Consisting of approximately 4,000 accredited individuals in attendance from 30+ countries.

The North Welland BIA board will be placing the Welcome to Welland signs up along Niagara Street.  If you would like to specifically request one, please email [email protected] with your business name and location.

The economic impact of this event is estimated at $30 million. Stephen Fischer, Executive Director of the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation (WRCC) and Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) stated, “We are honoured to be the site of the 2015 Dragon Boat Racing World Championships. This is exactly where we want Welland to be. This is exactly why it was the right choice for Welland to have made the investment in flatwater sports. Working with DBC and hosting the World in 2015 speaks to the long term return on investment in the WIFC and the event will continue delivering lasting impacts and legacies for our community, and our region, as we stage this spectacular World Championships.”

Niagara Food Festival Details Announced

At the Niagara Food Festival, there’s a tried and true recipe that makes for a great party. It takes one part eager food vendors, two parts exciting mainstage entertainment, a handful of local wineries, breweries and distilleries, a pinch of chefs doing live cooking demonstrations and sprinkle liberally with support from sponsors throughout the region.

But like any good recipe, it’s all about the details, so here’s a taste of what’s to come as the Peninsula’s Tastiest Party returns to Welland’s historic downtown core September 11, 12 and 13th.

Concerts on the Canal Series Announced

“The community cried out to let Welland have the stage,” said Stephanie Hicks, the Downtown BIA’s business development officer.

The city answered.

Welland’s business improvement areas teamed up Thursday afternoon to announce the line up of entertainers that will perform on the Merritt Park Amphitheatre this summer in the new Concerts on the Canal – a series of six free concerts, primarily focusing on local talent.

“This is a perfect opportunity for people who are from Welland, to highlight them,” said Hicks, who led efforts to organize the concert series for the North Welland and Downtown BIAs, that were awarded $30,000 in city funding to organize a series of free community concerts to replace the IlluminAqua concert series.

North Welland BIA Funds Welcome To Welland Sign

Anyone driving along Woodlawn Road coming off the highway only needs to look to the north side of the street between the river and the old canal to know exactly where they are.

A large “Welcome to Welland” sign is now up and ready to greet the city’s incoming traffic and to let people know that they’re entering the Rose City.

The North Welland BIA funded the new sign in an attempt to spruce up one of the city’s main entranceways. The sign incorporates light blue, gold and white into its design.

The sign was built and installed by Heritage Sign Builders, with the help of Creative Signs, and took about a month to construct. Its design is based on a logo designed by former Niagara College student Colin Nunn. Nunn won a 2005 city-wide contest to create a Welland logo.

“It’s very important to welcome people to our city, so when they come in they know they are entering our great city,” said Dawn McInnis, Welland’s tourism development co-ordinator.
